The way out of danger: My SoCal exit
From the beginning of the year, I felt there was something amiss. No one was saying much around me, but I felt like something was off and I was not were I was supposed to be. As we came closer to thanksgiving, the feelings intensified. My staff would ask, “Doc, are you ready for thanksgiving?” My answer was a resounding no. I joked that I handed bought anything but a few apple cider drink and some cranberries- nothing else. Lol. That was true, but the really answer was I wasn’t ready because I felt something was coming.
I had made up my mind to see my son who lived closer to Atlanta by November 24. On the morning of November 23, I asked my mother if she would like to travel with me. My intention was to help her move out of her Georgia apartment, as s previously discussed. She said, Yes! I swung by to pick her up from my sister’s house 45minutes away. By 8pm we were on our way in our 12 passenger van- My mom, one of my sons and I. How bold was I! I had never driven from California to Georgia BUT I was full of faith BECAUSE I had heard the Most High say, “GO! If you don’t go people will not know the way.” Well, Mom wanted KFC and I needed a mix of decaf and real coffee. I knew I dare not drink real coffee- my head would spin and my body would zip into an ultrawired state . I was not that eager to stay awake. We made our stops and bought some gas. On the road again, singing with me Shrek! I imagined donkey singing to Shrek.
What should be the route? In the past, my husband, TJ, had done all the driving. I was more suited for the role of a co-pilot. The could be a bit challenging I thought. Mom later confessed that she did not have the boldness to travel with me but my faith and enthusiasm gave her strength. My son, Al, reminded us we needed to get to Las Vegas. Yes, Las Vegas, that was the first stop. We could have travelled all the way down the 14S freeway to the 5 and headed towards Blythe. I knew that long trip would take us to the 10 but it would take too long to get out of California. I needed a new environment to recoup and plan the rest of the journey. In about 4 hours we would be in las Vegas.
Who knew that, on that day, on November 23, 2025 the Hayli Gubbi, shield volcano in Ethiopia had erupted. It was its first documented eruption in about thousands of years.
